Pelahbuan Ratu – the Trip from Hell

Our first mistake was deciding to drive there ourselves, well, in fact Andy has to do all the driving as I am not allowed to drive the office car (I am relieved). Its only about 80 km to PR but it takes a minimum of 3.5 hours and can take as many as 8, as the road condition is terrible. After 7.30 am there will be a lot of traffic and there are markets that set up in the road in each town you pass though. We left at 6 am on the Easter long weekend and made it in 5 hours, which was not too bad, but it was a pretty stressful drive. We arrived at our hotel to find that it had been completely taken over by fungus and moss so we moved to a new place – not easy to find somewhere on a long weekend! The first evening Andy had food poisoning but managed to recover with the help of some Cipro (antibiotics). We had a nice day the next day but then I was sick and spent the whole of the next day in bed! We got up at 5 am on the last day to return to Bogor, so it was not the most relaxing weekend!! Next time we will (1) get a driver (2) not eat dodgy fried rice on the way (3) stay at the new hotel we found (4) go surfing as this is the attraction, as well as relaxing on the beach!
