The weekend began with the triumph of repairing the computer. We explored some of Bogor, there is a kampung (traditional village) in the river valley just below our house (about 10 mins walk away). It’s a pretty cool place, a jumble of houses and alley ways, full of mopeds, kids, cats and laundry, with several footbridges crossing the river and associated fish ponds. Most of the cats appear to have no tails; someone told me it is genetic, but I have heard those guys fighting so I’m still not convinced! Maybe a suitable research project in there somewhere? We also finally made it to Kebun Raya (the Great Garden, Botanic Garden) and it is a fantastic place. Smack in the middle of Bogor’s congested roads, heat, dust and chaos is one of the premier botanic gardens in SE Asia. It is an oasis, complete with great restaurant to look out over the view and relax. Next time I will make a more scientific foray in the hope of actually learning something about tropical plants.
