Millarville Rodeo and around Cowtown

Andrew, Tabea and Lorelei visited us in Calgary for the weekend.  For the full Alberta experience, we headed southwest of Calgary to the Millarville Farmers Market and Rodeo in the “high country” ranchlands.

The Farmers Market was pretty good – some good local veggies and BC cherries and peaches.  There was not much veggie friendly prepared food on offer so we settled for chip butties.

The rodeo was great fun – it’s one of the best semi-pro small town rodeos in North America.  We enjoyed calf roping, steer wrestling, steer riding, and bronco riding, as well as acrobatic horse riding (trick riding) and the equestrian equivalent of synchronised swimming!

We made up for the lack of veggie food at the Farmers Market with a great Sunday brunch at the Coup, followed by a good walk through the city to Fort Calgary and then along the Bow River.
