Earlier this year I visited The Learning Farm in the mountainous Puncak region just south of Bogor. The Learning Farm is a charity that provides education and training for vulnerable youth, using organic farming as a vehicle for teaching life skills as well as organic farming methods.

I took a “colt” minivan part of the way to to farm site, with Jiway picking me up at the gates of our local safari park, Taman Safari Indonesia, where you are allowed to feed the animals and roadside vendors do a brisk trade in carrots and bananas being bought by visitors to the park!

The farm is situated in the grounds of an old Dutch tea plantation in lovely gardens, with the office in one of the old plantation buildings. The students live and study on the site too.

The farm is managed by our friend Jiway Tung and delivers organic veggies to households in Bogor once a week. Jiway’s wife Rella also supplies great baked goods and excellent bread, and they also offer organic rice, forest honey and cloth bags.

It’s sort of like a farmer’s market and youth charity all in one, so we’re still living the West Coast Dream, albeit in West Java…

Wondering if you wouldn’t mind terribly if I used one of your amazing photos in a blog post in support of a benefit I’m participating in for The Learning Farm.

    Of course!

Good luck with the fundraiser. We’re lucky enough to enjoy the learning farm organic vegetables, multi-grain bread, and other great food every week.

  3. it is still better to adhere on organic farming because the fruits and vegetables does not contain those harmful chemicals.`*’
