I had a great work visit to our (fairly) new Hatfield Consultants Africa office in Gaborone, Botswana. From the Vancouver “summer” to the southern African winter, I thought I had packed enough warm clothes. I was wrong, but no complaints about the amount of sunshine and the opportunity for an awesome trip to the Okavango Delta.
All too soon the first long weekend after our move back to Canada came around, and we weren’t really organized for a weekend away, after several months of running around like headless chickens sorting out every detail of our “nearly-new” life. Luckily, Vancouver Hash House Harriers came to our rescue, and we were tempted into making the drive north from Vancouver to the village of Lund.
Sunny, big, expensive, not as warm as you might think – welcome to Australia. Our road trip began in Melbourne on Christmas Day and ended in Sydney on January 12 in time to see Sons and Daughters play in the Sydney Festival. News Years Eve in Broken Hill and more than 5000 kilometers travelled.
Great Ocean walk is a great backpacking route along a beautiful stretch of Victoria coastline – 100 km from Apollo Bay to the Twelve Apostles. Officially, the east to west route is 7 nights, but we had planned to shave one day off this because otherwise some of the days are very short. Perhaps Aussies are not as sporty as they claim – it would have been easy to cut one more day off the hike.
